Short bursts are fine. Use Learning Tools for easier reading, read-aloud, less on screen, stronger contrast, no-rush and quieter-screen options.

If you get stuck, look at the example and try again.

MISSION BRIEFING

A fictional science channel mixes accurate explanations with one unsupported “reset” claim. Map how four body systems work together, test the data and decide what should be kept, corrected or removed.

✓Connect respiratory, circulatory, digestive and endocrine system functions.
✓Explain chemical signalling in simple system terms.
✓Use proportional reasoning with fictional system data.
✓Evaluate claims by comparing mechanism, evidence and marketing language.
INTERACTIVE LEARN MODE

No passive video this week.

This mission is deliberately built around its simulator, investigation, decision room or prototype instead of an external video.

LEARN

SYSTEM → MECHANISM → EVIDENCE

Human body systems are interconnected. The respiratory system exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide, the circulatory system transports gases and nutrients, the digestive system breaks food into smaller molecules and absorbs nutrients, and the endocrine system sends chemical messages to target tissues. A change in one system can affect others, but that does not mean one simple action can “reset” the whole body. Strong explanations name the mechanism, connect it to evidence, recognise variation between people and avoid universal promises.

LEARNING BUILD

Learn. Try. Check.

Look at the example. Try it yourself. Need help? Open a hint.

01 · REFRESH · QUICK PREREQUISITE CHECK

Refresh: a body system is a group of interacting structures with functions; systems can affect one another through movement of gases, nutrients and chemical signals.

Which sequence best describes oxygen transport?

02 · TEACH · CORE IDEA

Human body systems are interconnected. The respiratory system exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide, the circulatory system transports gases and nutrients, the digestive system breaks food into smaller molecules and absorbs nutrients, and the endocrine system sends chemical messages to target tissues. A change in one system can affect others, but that does not mean one simple action can “reset” the whole body. Strong explanations name the mechanism, connect it to evidence, recognise variation between people and avoid universal promises.

03 · TEACH · WHAT TO NOTICE

Connect respiratory, circulatory, digestive and endocrine system functions.Explain chemical signalling in simple system terms.

04 · TEACH · CONNECT THE SKILLS

Use proportional reasoning with fictional system data.Evaluate claims by comparing mechanism, evidence and marketing language.

05 · WORKED EXAMPLE

Worked example: the respiratory system exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide; the circulatory system transports those gases. This is an interaction between systems with a clear mechanism. That does not support a claim that one drink can “reset every body system” on a guaranteed timetable.

06 · WE DO · GUIDED PRACTICE

18 of 24 oxygen units move into the blood in a fictional model. What proportion is transferred?

Choose the strongest answer. You will get an explanation straight away.

07 · YOU TRY · INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

YOU TRY: Explain one two-system interaction using a mechanism chain. Then evaluate why the fictional “reset every system in 48 hours” claim outruns the evidence.

Write at least 25 words. This is about the learning, not personal information.

MISCONCEPTION

MISCONCEPTION: “Because body systems interact, one input must affect every system in the same way.” Interaction does not mean identical response, timing or effect.

HELP

HELP: Use “System A does ___. This changes ___ carried/processed by System B. The claim becomes weak when it says ___ without evidence for that mechanism.”

STRETCH · OPTIONAL

STRETCH (optional): Add a third system to your chain and identify one point where evidence would be needed before making a causal claim.

HUMAN SYSTEMS LAB

Connect the system to the job.

Match all four body systems to their main job, then audit the fictional reset claim.

Respiratory system

Exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Circulatory system

Transports oxygen, nutrients and other substances.

Digestive system

Breaks food down and absorbs nutrients.

Endocrine system

Uses chemical messengers to coordinate processes.

FICTIONAL CLAIM AUDIT

“One drink resets every body system in 48 hours.”

The post gives no mechanism or reliable source.

Match all four systems and make a decision on the reset claim.

OPEN THE SUPPORTING EVIDENCE
SOURCE 1

Gas exchange model

In the lungs, oxygen moves into the blood and carbon dioxide moves from the blood to the air.
SOURCE 2

Digestion model

Digestion breaks food into smaller molecules; nutrients are absorbed and transported around the body.
SOURCE 3

Signalling explainer

Chemical messengers can travel through the body and affect target tissues.
SOURCE 4

Reset post

A fictional creator claims one drink can reset every body system in 48 hours but gives no mechanism or reliable source.

INVESTIGATE + ENGLISH · EVIDENCE CASE

Systems work together — slogans usually leave that out

A fictional science video correctly explains that oxygen entering the lungs can move into the blood and be transported to cells. It also explains that digested nutrients can enter the bloodstream, where the circulatory system can carry them around the body. The video becomes unreliable when it claims one drink can reset every body system within two days. Body systems interact, but they do not all respond to one input in the same way or on one guaranteed timetable. A better explanation connects a biological mechanism to evidence, separates what is known from what is uncertain and avoids universal promises that the evidence cannot support.

MAKE THE CALL

Keep, correct or remove each part of the fictional channel. Defend your choices using mechanism, evidence and uncertainty.

BUILD YOUR CASE CONCLUSION1. Make the call. 2. Use at least two relevant pieces of evidence. 3. Explain one limitation or uncertainty. 4. Finish with what can responsibly be concluded.Strong structure: My judgement is… The strongest evidence is… However, we still do not know… Therefore…

CASE CONCLUSION: Write 180–250 words evaluating the fictional science channel. Explain how at least two body systems interact, identify why the reset claim is weak, include one counter-argument and propose a more accurate replacement message. Keep the task scientific and non-personal.

0/180 words minimum for this writing mission.
