YOU NEED
  • Required: a device with this page open.
  • Optional: headphones for video or read-aloud.
  • Optional: pen + paper for rough working if that helps you think.
HOW TO DO IT
  1. Read or listen to the Briefing + Learn.
  2. Do the interactive mission.
  3. Use facts from the reading and maths parts.
  4. Make your choice and save your project step.
  5. Play the weekly game. Finish Check-in.
WORK YOUR WAY

Short bursts are fine. Use Learning Tools for easier reading, read-aloud, less on screen, stronger contrast, no-rush and quieter-screen options.

If you get stuck, look at the example and try again.

PROJECT NOTE: Your project can stay digital. Physical making is optional unless you choose that format.

MISSION BRIEFING

PATHWAY DECK: A vision board is not a prediction machine. Use it to notice directions that matter to you now, then turn one direction into a goal small enough to act on and flexible enough to revise.

✓Separate a broad vision from a measurable goal.
✓Break a goal into steps, support/resources, a first action and review point.
✓Build a realistic time or budget milestone.
✓Treat future plans as revisable choices rather than fixed identity labels.

Retrieval Practice

Use retrieval practice as one concrete strategy when turning a future direction into an action plan.

LEARN

VISION → GOAL → STEPS → ACTION → REVIEW

Use VISION → GOAL → STEPS → ACTION → REVIEW. A vision can be broad: something you want to experience, learn, contribute or build. A goal narrows one part into something measurable. The first action should be small enough to schedule. Reviewing a goal is not failure; new evidence can justify keeping, revising or dropping it.

LEARNING BUILD

Learn it. See it. Try it.

Look at the example. Check another point of view. Then try the task.

Step 1: Choose a starting clue
WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW

Reasoning lens:ASSUMPTION → EVIDENCE → CONSTRAINT → TRADE-OFF → TEST → DEFEND / REVISE

What do you already know?

English / communication:Reflective and goal-focused writing.

Maths / data:Time/budget planning and measurable milestones.

Topic knowledge:Vision board, strengths/interests, pathways, high-school transition, goal-setting and action planning.

This week’s first target:Separate a broad vision from a measurable goal.

Which clue is a good place to start?

Choose a source that can directly support part of the investigation. More than one source may be useful, but start with evidence that does not outrun its support.

TEACH 1 · CORE MODEL

Use VISION → GOAL → STEPS → ACTION → REVIEW. A vision can be broad: something you want to experience, learn, contribute or build. A goal narrows one part into something measurable. The first action should be small enough to schedule. Reviewing a goal is not failure; new evidence can justify keeping, revising or dropping it.

TEACH 2 · WHAT TO NOTICE

Separate a broad vision from a measurable goal.Break a goal into steps, support/resources, a first action and review point.

TEACH 3 · CONNECT + TRANSFER

Build a realistic time or budget milestone. Treat future plans as revisable choices rather than fixed identity labels.

WORKED EXAMPLE · EVIDENCE

GOAL

“Complete two 25-minute practice sessions each week for six weeks” has a frequency, duration and review point.

Reasoning: Start with exactly what the source establishes. Connect it to the relevant concept, then stop before the claim becomes broader than the evidence. Now compare it with MAGICAL CLAIM: A vision board does not make an outcome happen by itself; action, opportunity, support and changing circumstances still matter.

Why caution still matters:This item is weak evidence for a broad conclusion: its claim or implication reaches beyond what the available support can establish.

WORKED EXAMPLE · MATHS / DATA ROUTE

You plan two 25-minute sessions each week for 6 weeks. How many total minutes of practice is that?

This week’s maths/data focus:Time/budget planning and measurable milestones.

Define the baseline, cost, time, proportion or criterion first. Calculate on the same basis, then test the result against the user need, constraint or success criterion.

WE DO · GUIDED PRACTICE

Which source needs the most caution before it is used to support a broad conclusion?

Choose any source whose claim outruns its support.

YOU TRY · INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

For My Future, explain one core idea, connect it to one named source or observation and one quantitative/data point from this page, then state an alternative explanation, trade-off or limitation that a strong judgement must consider.

Write at least 30 words. Name the evidence or data you are using and keep the claim inside what it can support.

MISCONCEPTION CHECK

MAGICAL CLAIM:A vision board does not make an outcome happen by itself; action, opportunity, support and changing circumstances still matter.

This item is weak evidence for a broad conclusion: its claim or implication reaches beyond what the available support can establish.

HELP

Try: “The assumption is ___. Evidence ___ supports/challenges it. The main constraint/trade-off is ___. I would defend/revise ___ because ___.”

STRETCH · OPTIONAL

Build the strongest reasonable counter-argument or alternative explanation. Name one additional piece of evidence that could distinguish between the two positions.

FUTURE STUDIO · WEEK 5

MY FUTURE · PATHWAY DECK

⌘

Turn a future idea into a first action.

Build a private vision-to-action map without pretending one choice has to define your whole future.

PRIVATE VISION BOARD · CHOOSE ONE DIRECTION TO WORK ON

TURN THE VISION INTO A GOAL

FIRST ACTION

Your future does not need to be decided now. This activity is about practising Vision → Goal → Steps → Action → Review, not predicting who you will become.
LAB IN PROGRESS

INVESTIGATE + ENGLISH · EVIDENCE CASE

A direction can matter without becoming your identity

Year 8 students are often asked what they want to do in the future before they have had the chance to try many possibilities. A useful vision board keeps options visible rather than forcing certainty. One image might represent a skill, a place, a kind of work, a relationship or a contribution. The next step is not to promise a future; it is to choose one action that produces more information about what fits.

MAKE THE CALL

Choose one goal to act on first. Explain why it is meaningful now, how you will measure progress and what evidence would make you revise it.

BUILD YOUR CASE CONCLUSION1. Make the call. 2. Use at least two relevant pieces of evidence. 3. Explain one limitation or uncertainty. 4. Finish with what can responsibly be concluded.Strong structure: My judgement is… The strongest evidence is… However, we still do not know… Therefore…

CASE CONCLUSION: Write 200–270 words explaining one vision-board direction, the measurable goal you created from it, the first two steps, one support/resource, one barrier and when you will review the goal.

0/200 words minimum for this writing mission.

HOW TO SUCCEEDRead the situation first. Estimate what a sensible answer should look like, choose an efficient calculation, then use the feedback to check your reasoning. For data questions, explain what the number shows — and what it does not prove.

ALIGN — connect capstone to values/goals where useful.

Start something real. Build an idea, test it, improve it, and share it. Make your move.

Start Something: choose an idea, name who it helps, make a small version, then test and improve it.

WEEK 5 · ALIGN · Connect the capstone to what matters to you without turning a goal into a fixed identity.

This saves into your Term 4 Start Something project record as you type.

Project sharing will be optional. A future upload system must keep private submission separate from public-showcase/marketing permission.
