Notice a character decision, a new piece of world knowledge and one question the chapter leaves open. Separate what the text states from what you infer.
Choose an unfamiliar or important word. Use the sentence, word parts and nearby ideas to infer its meaning, then check whether your meaning fits.
Write one claim about a character, conflict or theme. Support it with two specific details and explain how each detail strengthens your thinking.
Find a place where description, dialogue, pacing or point of view changes the feeling of the scene. Explain the effect rather than only naming the technique.
