YEAR 4 · TERM 1 · WEEK 8
The School Water Audit
Read, think, write, solve and play. Try your own answer before checking. You can have another go.
LEARN & PRACTISE
Word explorer
Read each word. Look for parts you know. Type each word to practise its spelling.
READ & UNDERSTAND
Reading detective
A Year 4 class checks how water is used at school. One tap drips during lunch. Another is left running while people wash paintbrushes. The class records what they see, then asks the caretaker to inspect the dripping tap. They make a poster explaining how turning off taps can save water. They do not try to repair the tap themselves.
WRITE & IMPROVE
Writing studio
Write a short explanation of two realistic ways a school can use less water. Include because in one sentence.
Plan one idea, explain it and check that your sentences make sense. You can edit your writing.
TRY THE EXAMPLE FIRST
Maths mission
To add 1,275 litres and 2,430 litres, add the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones: 3,705 litres.
APPLY YOUR LEARNING
Real-world mission
Design a water-saving notice. Draw a tap and explain how to help without touching any plumbing.
You can also draw or make the activity away from the screen. Record what you did or what you would make.
SKILL GAME · TAKE YOUR TIME
Challenge gate
Use what you learnt to unlock the gate. There's no timer. Mistakes help you find what to try again.
LOOK BACK
How did you go?
Choose what feels right. This isn't a test and there is no wrong answer.
Ka rawe — your learning is saved!
You can return to any activity to improve your work.
