YEAR 5 · TERM 4 · WEEK 8
Community Energy Choices
Read, think, write, solve and play. Try your own answer before checking. You can have another go.
LEARN & PRACTISE
Word explorer
Read each word. Look for parts you know. Type each word to practise its spelling.
READ & UNDERSTAND
Reading detective
A community hall wants to reduce electricity use. The committee considers LED lights, switching appliances off when not needed and installing solar panels. Each option has a purchase cost, expected savings and maintenance needs. Rather than assuming one option is best, the committee compares evidence and asks which changes are practical for the hall.
WRITE & IMPROVE
Writing studio
Recommend one energy-saving action for a community hall, explaining both benefit and limitation.
Plan one idea, explain it and check that your sentences make sense. You can edit your writing.
TRY THE EXAMPLE FIRST
Maths mission
Twelve lights using 8 watts each use 96 watts when switched on together.
APPLY YOUR LEARNING
Real-world mission
Make a fictional before-and-after electricity table and label your assumptions.
You can also draw or make the activity away from the screen. Record what you did or what you would make.
SKILL GAME · TAKE YOUR TIME
Challenge gate
Use what you learnt to unlock the gate. There's no timer. Mistakes help you find what to try again.
