YEAR 4 · TERM 2 · WEEK 8
Forest Track Signs
Read, think, write, solve and play. Try your own answer before checking. You can have another go.
LEARN & PRACTISE
Word explorer
Read each word. Look for parts you know. Type each word to practise its spelling.
READ & UNDERSTAND
Reading detective
A family follows a marked forest track. At the first sign the waterfall is 800 metres away. At the next sign it is 350 metres away. The group stays on the path, checks the weather and takes its rubbish home. At a junction they read both the map and the signs before deciding where to go next.
WRITE & IMPROVE
Writing studio
Write four clear safety instructions for a family following a bush track.
Plan one idea, explain it and check that your sentences make sense. You can edit your writing.
TRY THE EXAMPLE FIRST
Maths mission
800 m − 350 m = 450 m. The two signs are 450 metres apart.
APPLY YOUR LEARNING
Real-world mission
Draw a simple trail map with two signs, a start point and a safe turn-back point.
You can also draw or make the activity away from the screen. Record what you did or what you would make.
SKILL GAME · TAKE YOUR TIME
Challenge gate
Use what you learnt to unlock the gate. There's no timer. Mistakes help you find what to try again.
LOOK BACK
How did you go?
Choose what feels right. This isn't a test and there is no wrong answer.
Ka rawe — your learning is saved!
You can return to any activity to improve your work.
